NSW: Jury finds Alan Jones defamed former policewoman=2
The four-person jury took over an hour to return the verdict finding in favour of nineout of the 11 imputations raised by Ms Scott's barrister, Stuart Littlemore, QC.
Ms Scott, who left the police force in December last year, sued the breakfast announcerand radio station 2UE in the NSW Supreme Court over two editorials in July and August2001.
The jury found the references made by Mr Jones would have conveyed to a reasonableand ordinary listener that Ms Scott had been promoted through cronyism and was corrupt.
However, they found against claims that Mr Jones had implied Ms Scott had acted corruptlyby preventing the arrest of two policewomen and that she had been exposed as dishonestin the Wood Royal Commission into police corruption.
Speaking outside court, Ms Scott said she was delighted with the result.
"I am absolutely delighted and looking forward to the finalisation of the matter,"
she told reporters.
"I would like to thank my counsel and I would particularly like to thank my familyfor standing by me, and I thank you."
A directions hearing on damages has been set down for April 28.
