A handful of asylum seekers being detained in Australia will use a US court to suethe company running detention centres for tens of millions of dollars.
Up to six asylum seekers -- likely to include women and children -- will claim theirbasic human rights under international law have been violated outside the United States.
They will sue Australasian Correctional Management and attempt to seek damages fromits US-based parent body Wackenhut Corporation.
International law expert FERNAND DE VARENNES says if they're successful in their claim, hundreds more asylum seekers could follow suit.
The idea to sue ACM is the brainchild of Dr DE VARENNES, who teaches law at Perth'sMurdoch University and is the interim director of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Human Rights.
