NSW: Film producer flees home in valley
By Miranda Korzy
SYDNEY, Dec 5 AAP - Film producer Jeff Doring thought he was ready for the bushfires, but when they hit the valley near his home he just grabbed what he could and fled.
Now he is standing patiently at a road block in Sydney's north-west, not quite sureif he still has a home.
Unable to inspect the site, he is waiting to be let through to see whether his houseat Little Cattai Creek still stands.
Mr Doring said he had boxes packed and on the verandah ready for evacuation about 3.30pm(AEDT) yesterday.
However, the fire had raged up the valley near his home so quickly he'd had time tograb only two computers, two books and two drawings before fleeing.
Mr Doring said flames shot hundreds of feet into the air and roared like the ocean, sending a wave of burning embers rushing about one metre off the ground.
"I saw the flame reflected in the water (Little Cattai Creek)," Mr Doring told AAPat Glenorie today.
"Looking down I saw the orange and that's when I knew the whole valley was alight."
Mr Doring said he jumped in his car to flee, telling his neighbour to get out as quicklyas she could.
"By the time I got above it (the fire) I could see the whole valley where my housewas under very big flames," he said.
He said he was yet to see whether his house had survived the inferno, but thought itunlikely it would still be standing.
Road blocks had prevented him from inspecting the site so far, he said.
Mr Doring sought refuge with friends last night while a former resident of the townhad offered to put him up today.
A short time ago the bushfire situation in Glenorie flared up, with firefighting andwaterbombing efforts intensifying.
The Rural Fire Service said a shed had been lost in Fiddletown, near Glenorie, andthe southern edge of the fire was becoming much more active.
